The concept that real estate agents are all the same, is so far from the truth, it’s not funny. I can understand that when you’re interviewing different agents you can easily go through the motions hearing the same hoo huh from one agent to another and the messages between them all are leading to the same outcome. Though in my experience, it’s usually people who are just thinking about how much they’re going to get for their property and how much is it going to cost.
There is so much more to this decision than how much and how much. The person you entrust with the keys to your home, your biggest asset, will ultimately change the course of your life. A good job and different opportunities are available for your next stage in life, you generally have the opportunity to upgrade or have extra cash in the bank for a rainy day or to enjoy the finer things in life. A bad choice and you may just fall short for that dream home or sometimes be in an even worse position then you started off.
You should really take your time when deciding who the right agent is. You can’t make this decision over a thirty minute visit. It really should have hours put into it from both seller and agent. An agent should prove to you and leave no doubt that they are the perfect fit. That they will go out and get every single dollar possible from your potential buyer. You should ultimately be able to give your keys to your agent and they will handle the rest. Minimise stress is what I call it.
I think, the most important thing that you need to get through your head, is that you’re not against your agent. You need to trust that person and know they are there for you and will always work in your best interest. A lot of people go into these arrangements still hiding things from their agent, keeping it a guessing game all the way to the end. These sales are the ones where clients are left scratching their heads wondering want went wrong and how the biggest decision of their life is an absolute nightmare. If you don’t trust the agent you’re interviewing, then don’t hire them, especially because they are cheap and told you the biggest price.
Next time you are making a life changing decision like selling your house, try to explore outside of the basics. Think about what sort of service you are wanting, what the process is from start to end, what your next step in life is and is the agent going to get you there. These are all things that will help you make a better decision when you’re deciding on the right real estate agent for you.
